About
Just as you'd feel an unanticipated, much welcome hope when stumbling across a clearing while lost in the forest, we like to focus on unexpected hope here. We love grimdark, but believe that a story should never be without hope. We love dark and gritty fantasy, but believe there should always be a light at the end of it all. J.R.R. Tolkien's eucatastrophe—"a sudden and miraculous grace: never to be counted on to recur" ("On Fairy Stories")—is our guiding light. Yes, it's contradictory. Grimdark and hope? Who ever thought of such a thing? We're building a community of lovers of grimdark fantasy who believe there is always hope, no matter how unexpected. Founded and operated by Ohio University students who know that the future is bright, we want to spread a message of hope amidst darkness, both in fantasy and in the world.
